Jaguar Land Rover Halts Production After Major Cyberattack

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the U.K.-based automaker owned by Tata Motors, has extended its global production shutdown after a cyberattack disrupted IT systems, halted manufacturing, and impacted its supply chain.

The company confirmed production will remain paused until at least September 24, 2025, as forensic investigations continue.

The attack, claimed by a hacker group linked to Scattered Spider, Lapsus$, and ShinyHunters, reportedly exploited social engineering campaigns and stolen credentials to target JLR’s core IT infrastructure. While no evidence suggests customer data was stolen, some data was affected, and regulators have been notified.

The shutdown has caused significant financial losses, with JLR’s U.K. plants producing around 1,000 vehicles per day and suppliers across Europe affected. Despite investing heavily in IT and cybersecurity, including an £800 million contract with Tata Consultancy Services, the incident highlights the growing threat of sophisticated cyberattacks on automakers.

Government officials are closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing cybersecurity as a top priority and supporting JLR in safely resuming operations. Analysts warn that supply chain disruptions could extend the impact even after production restarts.
